West Germany's 1970 charts mixed international pop/rock hits with domestic Schlager. Simon & Garfunkel's folk-rock dominated, while Peter Maffay — who would become one of Germany's best-selling artists — had his breakthrough with 'Du.' The Krautrock movement (Kraftwerk, Can) was beginning underground but had not yet penetrated the charts.
